Audi Inaugurates Shanghai R&D Center Dedicated to AUDI Brand, Planning Four New Models

The Audi Innovation & Technology Center opened in Shanghai on September 3, 2026, as a joint venture incorporating full vehicle development and end-to-end capabilities. This expansion reflects the deepening partnership between Audi and SAIC Motor, transitioning from product development and supply-chain coordination into an integrated local R&D infrastructure.
AITC will concentrate on smart electric vehicle technologies spanning vehicle dynamics and handling, AI-integrated smart cockpits, and next-generation advanced driver-assistance systems. The center will also explore software-defined vehicles and AI-defined vehicle architectures, positioning itself at the forefront of automotive technology innovation.
The four new AUDI models, developed on the Advanced Digitized Platform 2.0 (ADP 2.0), will constitute the brand's second product generation in China. The debut model is scheduled for 2028, enabling gradual market expansion and reinforcing AUDI's presence across multiple segments. Staffed with approximately 300 employees, the center will support both operational strategy and R&D integration.
Matthias Pfister assumed the role of general manager, bringing experience from his prior leadership of SAIC Volkswagen's Shanghai Pre-Series Center. SAIC appointed Shan Yunwei as deputy general manager. Ownership structure allocates 49% to SAIC, 41% to Audi, and 10% to Volkswagen Group China.
