Polestar presents Formula 2030 concept signalling next design direction
Swedish EV maker Polestar unveiled the Formula 2030 concept car as the first comprehensive design statement from new design chief Philipp Romers. The showcar retains Polestar's signature Dual Blade headlights while embodying design direction for the forthcoming next-generation Polestar 2 and compact Polestar 7 SUV.
Polestar presented the Formula 2030 concept at a private strategy event at its Gothenburg headquarters on 8 September 2026, addressing investors, retailers and selected customers. The reveal marks Philipp Romers' first comprehensive design statement since taking the role of head of design in 2024 following his move from Audi.
Romers emphasised an approach of "bold evolution, not revolution" regarding the brand's visual language. The concept retains the split-blade light signature introduced with the original Polestar 2, alongside the low-slung fastback silhouette and extended roofline that characterise the brand's design. This strategy represents a considered refinement of the existing design language rather than fundamental reinvention.
The presentation forms part of the broader "Formula 2030" strategy aimed at supporting business growth and moving toward profitability. The concept is scheduled for public presentation later in 2026 alongside Polestar 4 launch activities. It previews styling cues destined for the next-generation Polestar 2 targeted for 2027 and the compact Polestar 7 SUV targeted for 2028. The company delivered 30,423 vehicles in the first half of 2026, its strongest first-half performance, though net losses reached $842 million.
